Haiti Advent Mission
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
For the past 8 years during Advent we have been conducting a home building project in support of the poor and destitute people of Haiti. With your generosity we have collected more than $73,000 and built 24 homes. Additionally, we have provided food, clothing, farm animals, and water pumps and lighting sources for many families in need. Once again I am appealing to you on behalf of the poorest of the poor.
This year we have expanded our commitment to the people of Haiti and agreed to participate in the construction of a new school in the community of Grand Boulage <--Click for more information on the school project>.
This year, in addition to building at least one home for a homeless family, our parish will finance the construction of one classroom in the new school. The cost of the classroom is $11,000. Over the next several weeks you will learn more about this project in the bulletin, and from the pulpit. I hope those who have been with me on this journey will continue to support this project and that many more of you will now become involved. The need is so great.
Jesus taught us that our compassion for others should mirror our love of God: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Beginning December 2 and continuing through December 22, I will again be collecting your donations. If you would like to be part of this work of Christian charity that is so desperately needed right now please e-mail me at email@example.com or call me at (610) 248-7131 and let me know how much you wish to donate.
Then, simply make your check payable to Immaculate Conception Church and either mail it to me at 2884 Hope Ridge Drive, Easton, Pa 18045 or, drop it off at the Parish Office and ask that it be put in my mail box. You may also put the check in the weekly collection, but please clearly indicate it is for Haiti.
We need to do our part again to help put smiles back on more faces of the Haitian people. Since we began this project there has been a wonderfully generous group of parishioners who have participated every year. If you have not done so in the past, please prayerfully consider becoming involved this year.
Thank you and May God bless you this holiday season and always.
